Being the principle engineer for the military of the Duke of Milan, Leonardo found it necessary to redesign their military construction capabilities from top to bottom. However, it was not simply enough to conceptualize the idea, for bringing it to fruition would present an insurmountable task of even their cleverest construction agents. The task beset was to design every aspect of the military construction process, including every tool, pulley, harness, location and construction process.
Leonardo found the best way to complete this task was with a single drawing. In communicating the items necessary, as well as their construction process in a single study, Leonardo’s responsibility remained simply showing the taskmaster how to view his work through Da Vinci’s Easel.
Once the conceptualization of the process was fully communicated via the study, Leonardo remained free to pursue other lofty artistic endeavors.
